Event Description
St Anargyroi church was blessed to host two beautiful Greek Orthodox Church weddings this year, each being a testament of the grace and the love of God that brings couples together in the sacrament of the Holy Matrimony. Archbishop Makarios presided over the ceremonies while offering prayers and support to the couples. The parish community was honored to witness and to help in organizing the ceremonies which were marked by rich traditions of the Orthodox faith. The couples were given candles to symbolize the light of Christ. After blessings and prayers, the bishop crowned the bride and groom and recited “The servant of God is crowned for the handmaiden of God in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Hymns were sung while the crowns were exchanged three times. This symbolized the couple’s unity and being the kings and queens of their kingdom. After recitation of the Lord’s prayer, the couples drunk from the common cup three times. The bishop while holding their hands led the couples three times round the service table while the Isaiah dance hymn was sung. These mysteries of holy matrimony are a reflection of Christ’s sacrificial love for the church which is unconditional and enduring. This is the kind of love expected from the newly joined couples. The church prays and continue to wish them well.
