His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, commenced his pastoral visit to Nairobi, Kenya, on February 15, 2025. Upon arrival, he was warmly received by dignitaries including the Ambassador of Egypt, Wael Nasreldin Attiya, and several Orthodox hierarchs. That afternoon, he presided over the Vespers Service at the Cathedral of Saints Anargyroi, where he expressed gratitude for returning to Kenya during challenging times and addressed concerns about external interferences in the Patriarchate’s jurisdiction.
On February 16, His Beatitude led the Divine Liturgy at the same cathedral, emphasizing the theme of reconciliation and urging those who have distanced themselves from the Church to return, assuring them of a warm welcome akin to the Prodigal Son’s return. The services featured chanting by students from the Patriarchal Seminary of Riruta, whom the Patriarch commended for their devotion.
The visit also included cultural exchanges, with students performing traditional songs and sharing in fellowship activities. His Beatitude’s itinerary was set to continue with the celebration of his name day on February 17, 2025 at the seminary, marking a significant occasion in the Orthodox calendar.
